Giving Back to the Communities We Serve

USP&E Power Plant Superintendent Kevin Malloy in our Power Plant offices at Syama Gold Mine in Mali Africa

Serving the people of Fourou, Mali is a passion for the USP&E Power Plant team at Syama Gold Mine. Kevin Malloy likes to say, "Having lived and worked in Mali for over 9 years now, I have never been more commited to making sure we as a company and I, as an individual, leave each community we are in - a better place." In this effort, Malloy and his team are in the initial stages of purchasing land in Fourou that will be used to build something unheard of in the wild bush backcountry of southern Mali - a community center complete with playground, kitchen, classroom and fresh meals served bi-monthly. USP&E hopes to support a english speaking teacher and offer electrical and mechanical training classes to those people in the community who are interested. We also hope to host camps for children soon with Every Orphan's Hope (www.orphanshope.org).

USP&E President Will Gruver with local children

USP&E is also a Proud Sponsor of African NGO's Like Samaritan's Purse and Every Orphan's Hope in Zambi. For the past several years, USP &E has dedicated a portion of its revenues to helping build schools, care for children in need, prevent disease and bring hope to war-torn regions. Please join us in supporting organizations like Samaritan's Purse and ARC - and help to truly make a difference in people's lives in Africa and around the world. Micro-Enterprise Development Conflict and disaster, both local and worldwide, can turn people's lives upside-down - forcing them to flee their homes. These people are then separated from their jobs, businesses and farms. They work hard to make ends meet, but they hardly get by. Many try to start small businesses to support their families but just don't have the resources to get going. Supported by companies like USP&E, ARC's microenterprise development programs are critical to helping local Africans rebuild productive lives and families. However, these microenterprise development programs do more than increase income and build self-sufficiency for these individuals. They contribute to economic growth, alleviate poverty, and reduce unemployment for entire communities. Microenterprise development programs are one of the most powerful ways of creating lasting and widespread change.
